Unfortunately due to lack of time Ajmer only served as an overnight stop on the way from Chittorgarh to Agra. For that reason it was not possible to visit the Dargah of Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chishti, one of indias most important muslim pilgrimage centres.
Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chishti was the founder of the Chishtiya order, the most important Sufi order in india. He came from Persia to Ajmer in 1192 and died here in 1236. Many Mughal emperors added buildings to the shrine over the centuries and great emperor Akbar is said to have visited the tomb every year on a pilgrimage.
Ajmer is a also an important place to the Jains. The Red Temple (Nasiyan), built in 1865 and also known as "The Golden Temple", has the Jain concept of the world on display in its main temple hall. Pictures of that universe and explanations can be found below.
