India 2012 - Tenkasi

Vishwanathar Temple

Vishwanathar Temple

Tenkasi is a small town im Tamil Nadu situated near the border to Kerala. It makes for a nice stop on the way by bus from Kollam in Kerala to Madurai or Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.

About 60% of the population are Hindu and the Kasi Vishwanathar Temple in the town center is a prominent landmark. It is probably the most peaceful place in town, especially in the evening when families meet there for a picinic on the temple grounds.

Parts of the temple are open to Hindus only and photography is prohibited. Beware the monkeys.

Courtallam Waterfalls

The waterfalls at Coutallam in the Western Ghats about 8km southwest of Kollam are known as a health retraet. There are several waterfalls and at some of them it is possible to take a bath at their base. The sites are fully equipped with locker rooms, massage parlours, separate bathing sites for male and female and of course a market in the village with well stocked stalls of things nobody really needs.
