The small town of Chidambaram is known for the Nataraja Temple, dedicated to Shiva who is worshiped here as the Dancer of the Universe. The translation of Nataraja is "Lord of the Dance". According to legend it was at this place Shiva won a dance contest.

Cameras are not allowed inside the temple and the inner sanctum is off limit for non Hindus.
